Especially for [livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy and [livejournal.com profile] sabotabby. Yes, is my blurry kitty. He's in my mom's squashed ferns.

In other news, nice footwork Brazil! You got my dad to watch football.

I'm sorry I haven't written in so very long. I am a boring person, and an angry person, and a busy person. I have barely loked at fandom-related things, as I have been trying to procure employment. Grad school is finito, except for the actually defending a paper part of it, and I'm severely pessimistic about that ever happening at the mo. Real life sucks ass just as hard as I remember it, with all the resumes and the sending and the not replying and the NOT REPLYING, GOOD GOD DOESN'T ANYONE EVEN SEND A LETTER OF RECEIPT ANY MORE?!?!

Er... sorry. As I said, and angry person is me. I am also finishing up a sculpture that will hang in a fiber arts show at my friend's studio (I is a Artist!), which is beyond surreal. The experience, not the sculpture. Photos to follow. Eventually. Really. I promise.

At any rate, the gist of this post is Am Not Dead Yet, Though Job Market Trying To Kill Me.
Love,
CJ

Many happy returns to [livejournal.com profile] slytherincess and [livejournal.com profile] mctabby, as well as half of freakin' HP fandom.

Since everyone else on my flist has done it, and I haven't played with the shuffle function in awhile )

If any of that tickles your fancy, drop me a note and I'll hook you up. Also, it's possible my musical taste is best described as "on crack."

I am not sure what humanity did to deserve Joan Rivers, but I repent. For all of us. Slap my ass and call me Jesus if you must, but please, for the love of all, find a way to shut her up. Nothing big, just a strained vocal cord every year around this time would. Her daughter's not that bad, maybe she can do all of the talking. Give Joan the etch-a-sketch pen and let her write on the screen. Just find some way to SHUT HER UP!!!

And if you could have the clue fairy visit her? She's gotta work a lot harder than she did in the past to make gay jokes funny. "The African Queens?" That's a stretch.

Thanks,
CJ

PS Never mind the above, OMG PENGUINS!!!!!!!!

ETA: Boy am I a genius. I just gleefully shouted, "Wait! I HAVE A MUTE BUTTON!" Voila! Penguins without Joan's commentary!

OK, some of you may have noticed that I'm a bit on the stressed out side. I'm also way too far toward the sedentary side for my own comfort. As a result, today I started the Couch to 5k training program, as well as a follow-up short yoga practice.

Three times a week. Twenty-five to forty minutes, depending on your love of yoga. I figure a good goal is to be able to run/walk the AIDS walk in May -- if that's not your bag, you can probably find another organized event to shoot for. Or you can get together with a group of friends and make your own goal event (I like the idea of an informal 5k followed by a massive italian dinner reward, but that's just me).

Beat the blahs, get fit, and have fun. Anybody with me?

Wah! I just finished watching the whole series. I know I'm about a few gazillion years late on this, but why'd they have to go and cancel it?

If you haven't already, please go read this Making Light Post. If it makes you angry, and you'd like to do somehing about it, please:

1. Contact your congressperson if you live in the US. I even made it easy for you. Two clicks, you've got email, snail mail, and phone numbers for the folks who represent you. There's some argument about what's most effective, with the leader usually being the telephone. Email and letters can be put off, but the phones have to be answered.

2. Spread the word. Link back to Teresa's post on your own blog/LJ, link to the nifty congress-finder, and talk to people you know in Real Life.

We now return you to your my regularly scheduled introversion.

Happy 2006

So I drank the kool-aid and did the myheritage.com "find the celebrity in you" thing.

Here's the first pic I ran, which told me I looked like:
Drew Barrymore 60%
Cameron Diaz 51%
Elisha Cuthbert (who???) 50%
Kirsten Dunst 50%

This pic gave the following results:
Andie MacDowell 58%
Christina Ricci 57%
Gillian Anderson 52% (I was agent Scully for two years in a row during undergrad. This made me deliriously happy.)

On a more worrisome note:
Michel Foucault?!?!?!?!

Finally, apparently chicks with short, spiky hair automatically look like old, bearded men like Steven Speilberg. I gave up after that one.

All of these pictures are from at least a year ago, as my hair is now about five inches past my shoulders and red. For now.

I'm on my third sinus infection in six weeks -- every time I start feeling 100% again, it starts back up. My online participation has been dramatically reduced by the general business of teaching a class and preparing to drop out of grad school. Oh, yeah, I'm dropping out of grad school with an MA. I keep forgetting to mention that.

I have been asking "is it November yet?" for ages, and now, two weeks from tonight at midnight, I'll finally be able to grok this new Harry Potter movie that looks so cool. Hopefully it'll be during one of the weeks when my head DOESN'T feel like it's been stuffed with cotton.

When you see this on your flist, quote the most obscure cultural production you consider yourself a fan of. Pimp it mightily, and spread the insanity.

As Qwilleran approached the barn he could hear the cats' yowling welcome, anf that brought to mind another question: On the night of the party, when Koko stared so intently at VanBrook's head, was the cat sensing a questionable operator? A felonious mentality? Farfetched as the idea might seem, it was not beyond the capabilities of that remarkable animal.

On the other hand, Qwilleran had to admit, Koko might have been staring at hair that he recognized as false.

--Lillian Jackson Braun, The Cat Who Knew a Cardinal

Cat Who... books are some of my favorite mysteries. The writing is smart, funny, and tight, and the characters are mostly adorable. Most take place in the town of Pickaxe, 400 miles north of everywhere, which is mythically located in the UP of Michigan, but reminds me quite a lot of Minnesota's small towns on Superior's north shore. I highly recommend the entire series.

OMG!

I loathe the idea of saying anonymous sweet/snarky/nasty things to my flist (mostly because y'all are the folks I turn to when Real People are being annoying), but I LOVE the idea of saying anonymous things about people who have NO IDEA that I maintain an online presence here. (A note to the few RL friends who read this LJ: yes, I know you're here. You have been deemed cool enough to know of my not-so-secret identity. Thus, you have not earned anonymous snarkery. Rejoice.)

Cue Anon Truth )

Er, yeah. I ran out of steam at the end there. I actually say number ten to her all the time. But overall that was quite theraputic.

I object!

It's not that I'm not an INTP (I very much am), but there's a difference between introverted and sociopathic. I maintain Voldy is most likely an ENTP -- you generally have to like being around people in order to amass followers. Of course, I tend to blame my charisma-vacuum on my introversion. Could just be that I'm boring:-)

It will come as no surprise that I got Up To Stuff in honor of last weekend's book release. What may come as a surprise is that I actually remembered to upload the pictures. Once you've revived yourselves from the shock, read on for sick, sad, and demented taled of Potter-based hilarity.

This post contains no spoilers, but many hilarious pictures )

Overall, it was more fun than should be strictly legal in one weekend. And seriously, can I have book seven now?
